A couple of days ago, I spotted this green caterpillar nicely camouflaged as it munched away on an arrowwood (Viburnum dentatum) leaf.

So this morning, I thought I would take another look at the shrub to see if I could spot the caterpillar again.
Couldn't find it, but I did discover this little fella looking quite at home on a leafy perch!
I think this might be a young eastern gray treefrog, but I'm no herpetologist! |
I was so happy to see a frog in my garden for the first time ever! :)

You are lucky to find a frog in your garden, do you have a pond perhaps? Or maybe one of your neighbours have?

I do feel I was very lucky to find the frog. We don't have a pond. In fact we're on a hilltop. And as far as I know, none of our neighbors have a pond. And it's been quite dry here lately (except for one day of rain this past Saturday). So it's really a mystery how the frog ended up here, but I'm happy about it in any case. It's a small tree frog. Maybe it gets most of its necessary moisture from dew?

Yikes. I would have been heartbroken if I'd stepped on a frog.
There do seem to be quite a few creatures underfoot this year - but mostly spiders, crickets, beetles and centipedes, in my case.
